As the largest multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game around, League of Legends has broken new ground and set the standard for the genre. In that same vein, Riot Games can now claim that the game has a successful album. Known as Pentakill, the heavy metal band is comprised completely of fictional characters from the game. Their album, Smite and Ignite, is currently sitting at number 30 on iTunes top 100 albums charts; and is already number 1 on the iTunes metal section.
The band’s webpage is filled with the kind of over the top information and biographies that one would expect from a marriage between heavy metal and LoL. Including the fact that guitarist Mordekaiser has killed the entire band during a particularly brutal practice session. Only for the entire group to come back from the dead.
As far as promotional material goes for a game, this is one of the better ideas to have come out of the gaming scene. The album can be bought on iTunes for US$5.99, or downloaded for free from the Pentakill website.
