Nintendo game servers for both Wii and DS consoles have gone offline; unofficially because they are connected to the impending GameSpy shut down. While most gaming fans would have mourned the loss of multiplayer for some of their favourite games, an enterprising group of Nintendo enthusiasts have decided to attempt to keep at least some of those titles alive.
This Nintendo private server only works with digital copies of the game that have been patched, and doesn’t cover every game just yet. Nintendo DS/3DS owners will have to change some connection settings to connect to the server, while Wii users will require a console that is capable of running homebrew software. Wii games will also have to be reset and save games deleted for this to work.
As a fan project, this server will not be the most stable or lag free experience for online multiplayer. It will, however, still allow multiplayer for the many Nintendo titles that have been affected by the shutdown.
