As you might have heard, GameSpy have decided to shut down its hosted services at the end of this month and plenty of games are going to be affected by it. Among them are plenty of famous title by EA such as Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Crysis, Crysis 2, Crysis Wars, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and many more.
While EA previously have pledged to save at least a number of them but in the end, the company not able to do so.
According to EA’s blog, the company is not able to come up with any solution at the moment due to technical difficulties and concerns regarding player’s experiences. Even though EA is still looking for community-supported alternatives, online services for all EA games that utilizes GameSpy platform will cease to function at the end of June.
This news is quite unfortunate since some of these games still have plenty of fans despite being really old. Then again, you know what they said: all good things must come to an end. The full list of EA games that will be affected by GameSpy closure is available right here.
