They say that it’s a life-saving habit for law enforcers to always have some sort of body armor on, but none would consider a smartphone as a life-saving bulletproof armor. For a local Brazilian military policeman, that’s exactly the case when his Nokia Lumia 520 saved him from a potentially serious gunshot wound after two robbers opened fire at him.
A 24-year-old military policeman in Sao Paolo, Brazil, was off-duty and was on his way to his parents’ home to drop off his uniform for his mother to wash. What he did not realise, however, was that the house was in the middle of a robbery: one robber had taken the policeman’s parents and another relative hostage while an accomplice waited on a bike.
Seeing the uniform in his hands, one of the robbers flipped out and fired two shots at him, where one hit the policeman square in the buttocks as he was running away. Amazingly, the bullet hit the young law enforcer’s Lumia 520 smartphone in his back pocket, where it deflected the bullet and quite literally saving his owner’s life as he ran to safety.

Unfortunately, the robbers still managed to get away with some cell phones, watches, jewellery and money, and one of the robbers remain on the loose. Nevertheless, the policeman and the rest of his family are safe, which is all that matters. He will count himself especially lucky, too, just like the owner of the Nokia X2 smartphone in Syria, or this lucky owner of the HTC EVO 3D smartphone in Florida. On both occasions, their smartphones actually stopped bullets dead in their tracks, saving their owners’ lives.
