Is the sleep/wake button on your iPhone 5 broken or starting to become problematic? You’re not alone, apparently, a good number of iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013 may have been affected by this issue. Apple is aware of this problem and has recently started a “iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program” to replace the faulty sleep/wake button on your iPhone 5 for free and yes, it’s available in Malaysia via Apple Authorized Service Provider.
If the sleep/wake button, aka the button located on the top of your iPhone 5, is having problems, visit Apple’s website to check if your device is eligible for the program. If so, bring your iPhone 5 into an Apple Authorized Service Provider to have its eligibility examined – your iPhone 5 must be in working order in order to qualify for this program.
Make sure that all your data have been backed up and Find my iPhone has been turned off. Erase data and settings in Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings, and remove any case or cover. Here’s something to note, if you are still using iOS 6, your device will be upgraded to iOS 7 after the sleep/wake button mechanism is replaced.
The Apple iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program is valid in Malaysia as of 2 May 2014. Visit Apple’s website to find out more about the program, or check out their list of participating Apple Authorized Service Provider.
