It looks like Google really wants to replace the boring messaging app on your Android smartphone and replace it with its Hangouts app. The search giant has just released an update to its Hangouts app, merging Hangouts conversations together with text messages from the same person.
The update, version 2.1, will place everything neatly into a single thread, allowing you to reply the person via either method – via SMS or as a Hangouts message. Different type of messages are indicated using different color codes and if you don’t like it, you can unmerge the conversations anytime you like.
Other changes include a homescreen widget for quick access to your recent conversations, simplified contact list and performance improvements. The update will be available this week on the Play Store.
Anyone here using Hangouts as your default messaging app on your Android device?
