As promised, World of Tanks has introduced the option to fight historical battles in the latest 9.0 patch. Only three options are available at the moment, these are the Battle of Kursk, Battle of the Bulge, and Operation Spring Awakening. There are also some minor tweaks to the game, as well as updated textures for some tanks.
Wargaming.net has promised a variety of changes to the game, including new game modes and textures. As part of the first wave of changes, 10 of the most popular tanks have been updated to look nicer than before. This includes the T-54, M4 Sherman, M18 Hellcat, Panther, and Maus.
Historical battles, on the other hand, will be asymmetrically fought battles with the stats of each tank slightly altered from those found in a regular match. Which means that Russian sides will be able to use a numerical advantage with smaller T-34s against a smaller number of Panthers and Tigers in the Battle of Kursk.
World of Tanks is also offering players who change their password 300 in-game gold. This is apparently a safety precaution against the recent Heartbleed bug that has left two thirds of the internet vulnerable.
