Remember when Facebook was reported to have a location-tracking feature about a year ago? Well, here it is, the social network just announced a new feature called Nearby Friends, which allows you to discover which of your friends are nearby or on the go and vice versa.
Freaked out? Unlike location services that are turned on by default for Facebook chats, this is fortunately something you have to opt in to. When turned on, if you are for example, going for a movie, Nearby Friends will let you know if there are friends nearby so you can meet up and perhaps catch the movie together. Of course, both parties need to have Nearby Friends turned on and must be visible to each other before this could happen.
Nearby Friends is a lot more customizable too, you can choose to share a precise location with the particular friends you choose for a set period of time. This means that if you are headed to where your crush usually is, you could perhaps just turn it on for him/her to see. Nearby Friends will also show you when your friends are travelling and you will even be able to see the city or neighborhood they are in.
Nearby Friends will be rolled out to Android and iPhone users in the next couple of weeks and it’ll only be available for U.S. users, for now at least. Will you Facebook and your friends to track you wherever you go
