Blizzard’s free to play online CCG Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft will soon be updated with its first single player campaign. Players will enter the necropolis of Naxxramas, headquarters of the lich Kel’thuzad, to defeat the evil overload and his minions. More importantly, this expansion comes free of charge.
Hearthstone has so far committed itself to multiplayer matches and random pairings. The single player test mode exists mostly as a tutorial for the different classes available. Blizzard is definitely trying something new with this genre by adding a solo campaign that provides rewards for playing.
While the campaign itself is technically free of charge, players will only be able to enter the first level without some effort. The four levels after that will require either real world money or in-game gold to unlock. Like the rest of Heartstone, this means that spending real money reduces the amount of time spent on grinding through countless games for gold.
There is no word on when Naxxramas will be released, but it is scheduled to be released over the course of five weeks; with one part of the campaign released per week.
