In a new weekly segment at Lowyat.NET, we decided to scour the wonderful world of Kickstarter to see what funky things we could find and whose dreams you should throw your money at. I use kickstarter quite often to check out cool boardgames to back or even what’s out there in the tech world prototypes. This week we look at a modern interpretation of a household staple, the Smartlamp.
The Luma Smartlamp is possibly the coolest Luminous device we’ve seen in quite a while. Imagine either a table lamp or a standing lamp that is controlled by your smartphone. On top of this the Luma also has the functionality to charge your device via USB, be used as a bluetooth speaker to stream music and make/take calls, alert you to notifications by flashing and to change colour and brightness all at the touch of a button. If you buy more that 1 Luma SmartLamps you can even group them to be controlled via the app!
The lowest entry level to get yourself a Luma will be US$89 (Plus US$20 for shipping) and that gets you a short shade, the tall shade will set you back US$110 (Plus US$20 for shipping) and if you’re Mr Moneybags, US$650 will get you the opportunity to be part of the design process for 2 lamps at their HQ in Salt Lake City, flights and board are on your own dime of course. The Luma is set to ship and deliver by September 2014 which is not that long a wait for a Kickstarter project.
