So, the rumour is true: AMD has officially unveiled its brand new dual-GPU graphics card that the company named the Radeon R9 295X2. While most of the information regarding the card are widely known due to leaks prior to today’s official announcement, it is still good to hear the official side of the story.
At the heart of the new AMD Radeon R9 295X2 graphics card, there are two fully unlocked Hawaii XT GPU – the same GPU that AMD has equipped into its most powerful single GPU graphics card at the moment, the Radeon R9 290X. Together, the new Radeon R9 295X2 carries a total of 5,632 stream processors with the GPUs themselves run at the speed of up to 1018MHz.
Alongside the two GPUs are 8GB worth of GDDR5 which operate at 5GHz on a dual 512-bit memory bus. Apart from these traits, the Radeon R9 295X2 also comes standard with its own factory-fitted liquid cooling solution by Asetek which includes an integrated pump and water block assembly on each of the card’s GPUs.
The thermal solution is also equipped with a 120x120mm radiator and not enough with that, the Radeon R9 295X2 also has an aluminium shroud on its front that is designed to improve the card’s thermal emissivity. There is also a solid metal back plate on the card’s back to help stabilize it while at the same time dissipate heat from its PCB board.
The full specifications of the card are as below:
With so much firepower in just one graphics card, AMD stated that the hardware resources within the Radeon R9 295X2 will only be fully utilized at 4K resolution. Hence, you can expect the card to still be able to perform very well at such a high resolution as shown in this chart:
To be available from leading add-in-board manufacturers such as ASUS, Sapphire, Power Colour, and many more, the new AMD Radeon R9 295X2 is scheduled for release at the end of April. How about its price, you asked? That would be USD 1,499 (RM 4,839) which is still pretty high for average users like you and me but it is still way lower than the card’s closest rival, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan Z that is priced at USD 2,999 (RM 9,680).
