Coming later this year, Windows Phone 8.1 will provide plenty of new features to Windows Phone 8 devices which include the Cortana personal assistant, Action Center, Start Screen Background, Lock Screen theme, Word Flow keyboard and more. As for owners of Nokia devices, they will receive even more features in their Lumia devices.
This is due to the fact that Windows Phone 8.1 will be combined together with the company’s in-house improvements in an update package that the company dubbed as the Lumia Cyan. Among new stuff that Nokia will release into WP8-based devices via Lumia Cyan update is an improved version of Nokia Creative Studio that will include five new image filters.
Other than that, users will able to see all the effects on Smart Shot, Cinemagraph, and Refocus photos directly in the Camera Roll itself. An updated version of Nokia Storyteller app will also be released alongside the Lumia Cyan update which features video slideshow (nicknamed as Living Images) that can be shared to Facebook and Twitter.
Meanwhile, Lumia Cyan will mark the debut for Nokia SensorCore technology which allows the usage of sensors on Lumia devices for fitness and adventure-oriented apps without sacrificing battery life. Information regarding this particular tech is still limited at the moment since it is still in private beta but it is supported by the new Lumia 930, Lumia 630, and Lumia 635.
Meanwhile, Lumia Cyan update will also provide the support for Dolby Surround Sound Capture on Lumia 1520 and the Verizon-exclusive Lumia Icon. Hence, videos that are recorded on both devices will feature 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus sound format.
Last but not least, the Lumia Cyan update will also allow owners of Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon to wirelessly project their phone display to TVs, projectors, and other displays that supports Miracast technology. Both features will be available on Lumia 930 as well.
Sounds interesting? Unfortunately, you still need to wait for quite some time before you can utilize all these new Lumia Cyan features on your Lumia WP8 devices since the update will only be released some time in summer which could be any time between May and September…
…unless you grab a Nokia Lumia 630 or Lumia 635 that will be released in Asia starting from next month and come pre-installed with Lumia Cyan.
