BlackBerry has begun rolling out the latest – and final – update for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. The update, known as OS 2.1.0.1917, is primarily a bug-fix update alongside updates to Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR.
According to the BlackBerry Software Support Life Cycle site, this will be the final update delivered to the BlackBerry PlayBook, which will reach the end of software support in April this year. The final update was released on March 31, so it is likely that this will be the final OS update for the tablet, which has had quite a storied past alongside its maker’s fortunes.
The OS update brings nothing new to the table, bringing updated versions of the Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR for compatibility and security fixes alongside other system updates. With many BlackBerry diehards still holding on to their PlayBooks, this update is a double-edged sword: sure, it’s great that BlackBerry still cares to update an OS that nobody uses in the grand scheme of things, but it also adds one final full stop to the company’s tablet.
