Relic Entertainment has announced the existence of a new standalone expansion to Company of Heroes 2. Titled Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies, it will return players to the conflict with in western Europe and feature two new armies.
The US Army will yet again be a playable army, while the Germans receive the Oberkommando West. As usual, both will feature new units, tactical gameplay, and upgrades. The Western Front Armies will also introduce 8 new multiplayer maps for the new setting.
Players looking for a new single player campaign will be disappointed to learn that the new expansion is designed solely for multiplayer. Although the good news is that due to the standalone nature of the expansion, players do not need to own the original Company of Heroes 2 to enjoy it.
Relic appears to be trying something new with the release of this expansion, as each army will have to be purchased separately for US$12.99 a piece. There will be a bundle for both armies at US$19.99; but one wonder why a standalone expansion has such a needless complication when it could easily be a set of DLC for the original game.
Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies will be available in June.
