For Mac users, the thunderbolt port has always represented something that theoretically you can use to transfer data really fast but often the solutions are way too expensive to be viable. Sure, it was used to power displays and adapters for ethernet, but the bread and butter was hooking up a blazing fast hard drive to your Mac.
Enter Western Digital with their brand new portable Thunderbolt drive the My Passport Pro. The drive comes in 2TB and 4TB size and is the same size as a usual WD Passport with the exception of its thickness. Given that it is holding 2 drive platters configured in RAID 0, it’s pretty darn impressive. Transfer speeds can top you up to about 233MB/s and you can even use it as a boot drive if you wanted.
Price is to be announced and if its cheap enough, the My Passport Pro may just be an essential for a photographer’s on location needs.
