NVIDIA will be developing a full PC port of the cult “Portal” game for its Shield handheld console, which is powered by Android. There’s no timeframe set for the release just yet, but NVIDIA states that will be exclusive to the Shield as well as devices powered by its Tegra processors.
At the 2014 GPU Technology Conference, where the company also announced the insane US$2999 GeForce GTX Titan Z GPU, NVIDIA has stated that it will be porting the full PC version of “Portal”, the 2007 Valve first-person shooter unlike any before it. The puzzle-based game remained long in the memory gamers with its inspired gameplay and of course, GLaDOS.
Now, SHIELD runs on Android. Although NVIDIA is stating that the game (when released) will be an NVIDIA exclusive game limited to devices running on Tegra processors, an NVIDIA representative has mentioned that the game will not be “technically locked” the its chipsets, so it wouldn’t be too far off to think to think that Portal will be available to more Android devices. And that’s quite an exciting prospect, even if the game isn’t coming anytime soon.
