A restaurant in Kuala Lumpur will soon accept Bitcoin payments, making it the first restaurant in Malaysia to do so. The restaurant, Barbecue Garden located in the heart of KL’s Golden Triangle district, will also play hosts to a Bitcoin event ahead of the World Bitcoin Conference 2014, which is scheduled to be held in Berjaya Times Square from 24-26 March.
As the first restaurant to venture into Bitcoin as a method of payment, it will be particularly interesting to see how payment transactions involving Bitcoin at the premise will be handled, whether via a Bitcoin Wallet app or other electronic means. More pertinent is the fact that Barbecue Garden may be the first physical outlet that is accepting Bitcoin payments, despite a Bank Negara Malaysia statement which states that Bitcoin is not recognized as legal tender in the country.
Regardless, the restaurant is also organizing a Bitcoin event called BOOST: Bitcoin Party this Sunday, March 23. The event, which is a prelude to the World Bitcoin Conference commencing the next day, will also see prominent regional Bitcoin exchange members speaking at the event.
