After many months of speculation, it would appear that Facebook is finally preparing to roll out video advertisements. The offers to buy video ad space are being offered to select US advertisers starting today, with the promotions showing up in news feed in late April or early May.
These 15-second ad spots will begin playing as soon as a user hovers their cursor over it. The mobile versions will be cached to allow them to be played again and again. Of course, this raises the concern that video ads will eat up extra amounts of user’s data limits; although the mobile version will apparently not play audio unless interacted with.
With this roll out already happening in the states, it is only a matter of time before it reaches the rest of the world and exposes us to larger amounts of spam on our news feeds.
