Wow. Just when you thought Rovio has milked everything it could with its hugely, hugely successful Angry Birds franchise, the Finnish company has released a new title that took everyone by surprise – not just because it’s another Angry Birds title, but because it’s the first since the original game that would make you want to play it.
Angry Birds Epic takes an extreme turn away from the physics-based gameplay of previous Angry Birds games. While the previous title, Angry Birds Go, still retains some old elements from the original Angry Birds despite being a racing game, Angry Birds Epic will likely be completely different. The game will reportedly be a turn-based RPG, involving an extensive crafting element that will definitely engage RPG fans.
According to Kotaku, players will be able to craft weapons, armor and even potions via in-game resources and of course, real-world currency. For now though, details are still scarce, but the game will be released in a very early form in the Canadian and Australian iTunes store later this week. The finished version will be available later this year for iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8.
Oh, and if you think that this game will be more male-oriented, don’t forget that Rovio’s also developing a female-centric Angry Birds title called Angry Birds: Stella.
