In just 3 short days, the area around Bukit Jalil National Stadium will be jam packed with festival goers attending the much hotly awaited Future Music Festival Asia. Last year saw over 50,000 revellers flood the Sepang International Circuit for 2 days and this year it will be even bigger. Whether your taste involves larger than life Mau5 heads, drifting into A State Of Trance or just plain being #HappyInKL, FMFA14 will have something for you.
I’m sure you’ve already seen various lists telling you the do’s and don’t of a festival but here at Lowyat.NET we decided to give you tips based on what we do best, tech and gadgets!
Lowyat.NET and Lowyat.TV will be attending FMFA2014! If you recognise us, do stop us and say hi!
1) Download the FMFA 2014 App For Your Smartphone (Android & iOS)
Last year, this app proved super useful for me when I was juggling the time between the various stages and acts. When there are as many star studded artistes as FMFA is bringing, you definitely need an assistant. The smartphone app for FMFA is the next best thing. You can mark which acts you want to watch and set timed reminders to buzz you when you should be wading through the massive crowds to the stage of your choice. You can also get map information incase you get lost in the vast expanse that is FMFA2014, because you know it’s 6 Stages instead of just 3.
2) Bring A Powerbank
Especially for Day 3, you’re going to be out and about for most of the day. Nothing is worse than getting a flat battery and a flat tire on the way home in the middle of the night. Be prepared, bring a big powerbank, one with a flashlight perhaps! Alternatively you could not attempt to record every act you see with your smartphone and save that bit of battery!
3) Switch from 3G/H+/LTE to the good ol Edge networks
Bukit Jalil is going to be crowded as all heck. The cell towers are not going to be able to keep up with the amount of people and instagram pictures flying about. Anyone who has ever been to a rave or festival at Sepang will be able to tell you, Whatsapp messages are just not going to go through; Switching to 2G will help you twofold! You will more likely be able to connect to your mobile services and you save more battery power on your device!
4) Timestamp your SMS’
In case Whatsapp really isn’t working, make sure you add a timestamp to your messages to friends so they know if they receive a message late. No one wants to get a message like “WHERE ARE U? IM AT THE VIP TENT! COME NOW!” 2 hours late.
5) Bring Ziplock Bags Just In Case
The weather is not a factor you want to take very lightly, especially in Malaysia. One thunderstorm is all that is needed to render your phones and compact cameras useless (unless you have a Z1 of course). Bring a small sandwich sized ziplock bag to pop your phone in just in case you need to protect your gear from the weather.
6) Keep Your Phone/Tablet/Phablet In Your Pocket And Just Enjoy Yourself!
Sure you want your Instagram friends to be jealous that you are 4 rows from Armin Van Buuren or you probably want to get that drop from Martin Garrix’s Animals on video for the world to see but the most powerful camera and memory card is you. Live the festival through your eyes and keep the memories like that. Who rewatches that completely blown out audio-ed footage anyway? Do a favour to the guy behind you and put that device down. You’ll thank me later.
