Symphony Teleca has developed an app for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch that pushes turn-by-turn navigation instructions onto the smartwatch. The app, developed using Nokia’s HERE Android SDK, syncs the Galaxy Gear with a Samsung Galaxy device and provides walking navigation to the smartwatch, letting you keep that potentially-large smartphone comfortably in your pocket, and navigate confidently in foreign streets with just a watch.
The app, called TurnByTurn, is currently only available for the Android-powered Galaxy Gear. However, SamMobile reports that Samsung has commissioned Symphony Teleca to work on the Tizen platform, which means the app will also likely be available soon on the new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches as well.
TurnByTurn works almost the same as other Gear apps, where most of the heavy lifting is done on a paired Galaxy device. In the case of TurnByTurn, users open the companion app on their Galaxy smartphone or tablet, and then proceed to map your route to your destination. Once that is done, the app then automatically synchronizes the navigation instructions and pushes them to the Galaxy Gear, where there will be audio and visual cues to guide you on your way.
