Android flavoured tablets have officially overtaken Apple’s iOS as the most popular operating system for tablets. Android tablet sales took a whopping 61.9% of market sales for 2013, compared to iOS which had 36% according to technology research firm Gartner. iOS had a 52% market share in 2012.
Androids dominance attributed largely to its availability across multiple devices and manufacturers, and a multitude of price options. Samsung’s market share for 2013 also grew to 19.1%, up from 7.4% the in 2014. Apple’s iPad however still dominates the vendor market sales for 2013, albeit with a reduced market share.
Microsoft’s Windows 8 tablets meanwhile showed a 1.1% growth and recorded a 2.1% market share for 2013. Full statistics and numbers are available from Gartner’s press release.
