Tablets and smart band are not the only new products that Huawei has brought along to Mobile World Congress 2014. There is also the new Huawei Ascend G6 smartphone, which seems like an incarnation of Ascend P6 that the company released last year. But is that really the case?
In terms of design and finishing, that assumptions seem to be somewhat plausible although the Ascend G6 might be slightly thicker at 7.5mm (7.85mm for LTE version). However, things are quite different when it comes to the hardware that Huawei has packed into the new Ascend G6.

The Ascend G6 is equipped with a slightly smaller 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 960×540 and pixel density of 245ppi. The quad-core processor that is equipped into the device is also running at a slower speed of 1.2GHz although Huawei choose to use Qualcomm Snapdragon chip instead of the company’s own as per Ascend P6. The battery capacity remains identical though at 2000 mAh.
Running Huawei’s in-house Emotion UI 2.0 on top of the device’s Android 4.3 operating system, the Ascend G6 also comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage together with a MicroSD slot that support card with capacity of up to 32GB. The LTE version of Huawei Ascend G6 also comes with additional support for NFC.
As for the Ascend G6’s photography capability, its rear auto-focus camera features an 8-megapixels sensor, F2.0 5-elements lens, and flash while the front camera is equipped with 5-megapixels sensor and F2.4 wide-angle 4-elements lens. To help users snap selfies, Huawei has also implemented selfie preview window, voice activated shutter, and 10-level auto face enhancement.
No words on when the Huawei Ascend G6 will be released in Malaysia but Huawei did mentioned that the 3G version of device will be released sometime in this quarter and the Ascend G6 LTE will be out this coming April. As for pricing, the Ascend G6 LTE is priced at EUR 249 (RM 1,119) while no info on the 3G variant just yet. To learn more, just head on to consumer.huawei.com.
