LG’s curved G Flex is no one trick pony. Besides being a curved phone, the back cover is also self-healing. Minor scratches and scuffs can actually disappear within minutes on the G Flex’s back cover, and it’s down to a special coating on the cover. To see it for ourselves, the staff at the LG MWC booth gave a quick demo to show the self-healing properties of the LG G Flex.
LG isn’t saying the technology that is behind the coating that allows it to heal by itself, and it’s easy to understand why. Minor scratches on smartphone covers are a common occurrence, as they often share pocket real estate with keys and other things capable of scratching the device. LG notes that the special coating on the G Flex’s back cover will naturally mend itself from minor scratches and scuffs in a matter of minutes, but you can even accelerate the process by applying heat to the cover itself.
It is important to note, too, that the coating can only recover from minor scratches and scuffs, and is not designed to withstand deeper scratches. But, this highly practical coating definitely adds greater value to a smartphone, and it is likely that LG will add the special coating on its next flagship devices.
