Motorola is leaping onto the smartwatch bandwagon and is preparing to return with a wearable device of its own later this year. The news was broken during a panel discussion at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It’s not entirely an official announcement, but it did come from senior vice president Rick Osterloh.
Most would be wondering how this sort of thing might be happening. Motorola has already tried to build a wearable in the MotoACTV. That particular fitness tracker may not have been a true smartwatch, but it did look like one. It was also plagued with the same lack of style and reason to be worn as the current batch of wearables.
However, Osterloh claims that the new smartwatch will address these issues; although he did not elaborate on how this would happen. Considering that Motorola managed to pull off the highly popular Moto X and G last year, a wearable to complement the phones wouldn’t be too hard to imagine.
