Now that Samsung has finally taken the curtains off one of the most exciting products in the entire MWC 2014 show – the Galaxy S5, how does it stack up against all the other flagship smartphones from mainstream companies like Sony and LG? Both Sony and LG have already made their announcements for their flagship smartphones – Sony Xperia Z2 and LG G Pro 2, all these devices are packed with the latest and greatest hardware in the market, so let’s take a look at them side by side.

Honestly, if you asked me to pick between the 3, it’ll be a very, very tough choice and let’s not forget, HTC will be announcing its flagship next month so there’ll be one more to add to the list if you’re looking for a new mainstream flagship smartphone this year. Personally, design wise, I’d pick Sony and HTC (if HTC sticks to its aluminum design), just because they look a heck lot nicer and are more solid to hold. I’m intrigued by LG and all the new features – knock to unlock looks fun and I wouldn’t mind trying out the rear buttons, but LG Malaysia seems to be so slow in bringing devices to our region. Sony Malaysia has already sent an invitation for an event next month in Jakarta (most likely to launch the Z2), and Samsung is famous for its simultaneous launch worldwide including Malaysia so we should be getting it at launch date, hopefully.
As for Samsung, a new TouchWiz interface is definitely refreshing, especially if you’ve been using Samsung phones (reviews units) for the past couple of years and have been seeing the same old thing over and over again. Additionally, now that it has IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, it’s definitely a lot more interesting than previous Samsung smartphones, yes, including the S4 Active that I haven’t personally seen anyone use.
So, Samsung vs Sony vs LG, what’s your pick, or would you rather wait to see what HTC has got to offer?
