Samsung has staged a surprise here today, with the announcement of the new Samsung Gear Fit wearable device. Featuring an integrated heart rate monitor, the sleek wearable aims to be the perfect companion device, particularly for fitness enthusiasts. While the Gear 2 Neo and Gear 2 made its debuts earlier than expected, the reveal for the Gear Fit came on point when Samsung spoke to the integration of life and technology for the S5.
The Gear Fit doesn’t have a camera or any superfluous features that masquerade it as something its not and instead focuses on doing what its made to do very well. The curved Super AMOLED touchscreen looks amazing and makes the gear fit not only a top fitness wearable, but a fully functional smartwatch as well.
The Gear Fit will have interchangeable rubber straps and combined with its slimmer design make it actually wearable around your wrist. The Fit will also have a 3-4day battery life, a far cry from the measly 1 day of the old gear. On top of that, the fit is also IP67 dust and water resistant, a no-brainer for a wearable device.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear Fit is Samsung’s answer to the Fitbit or Jawbone only a lot more useful and much more fully featured. It’s the combination of the Gear Fit and the S5 which will drive the sales of one or the other. The ecosystem and integration with the combination of Coach and S Health finally does the whole “life companion” concept right.
Now let’s see how much this nifty device will cost when it comes out on April 11th.
