Now that the whole Flappy Bird incident has finally slowed down a little, it’s about time to move on and discover other games. I was browsing around for apps to install the other day, and I’m pretty certain it’s because of the kittens, I stumbled across Naughty Kitties, a game for iOS devices that involves cats and spaceships, how could I have resisted that?
Like games that requires you to run/jump/fly as far as possible – Temple Run, Mega Jump, Minion Rush and such, the game requires you to travel as far as possible in a space ship, using kittens to help battle enemies and to repair your ship from attacks.
The goal is to travel as far as you can in one game and earn coins while you’re at it – you earn more coins by battling enemies and when you change the cats on your spaceship. The coins can then be used to buy more spaceships or gadgets to help you in your battle, or to upgrade your cats but there’s a catch, there always is one, to upgrade your cats further, you will need fishes, which are very limited and you only get one fish per level upgrade. The game is available to download on the App Store for free but as with most games, if you wish to be more powerful or to further upgrade your items, you’re going to have to play the game a lot, or fork out real money to purchase fishes, which are charged in none other than USD.
Watch out though, the came can be pretty addictive, especially when it involve cute kittens and more cute kittens. Like how Candy Crush works, you are only given a limited number of lives to play each time, which will get refilled back every 10 minutes or so. It isn’t that bad really, if you’re good at the game, one session can last a couple of minutes so you won’t actually have to wait too long to get a new life.
Like a normal pet, you will need to feed them frequently to keep them happy so they are stronger and can fight longer each time. Cats can be fed cat food which has to be purchased for 200 coins. You can pick which cat you wish to bring along for battle, the number of cats allowed depends on your ship.
You can select which cat or gadgets to bring along for a particular game
You can also upgrade your ship or purchase new ones using quite a huge amount of coins.
Ship menu – buy new or upgrade your existing ship
You can also purchase extra gadgets to help you in your battle and thankfully, they can all be bought using coins rather than fishes.
Purchase gadgets so you can bring them along during game play. Each session only allows one gadget to be brought along
During battle, you will have to wait for random kittens to appear so you can put them on the ship. Each cat only has a limited time they can stay on the ship so you will have to change them quite frequently.
Orange kitties falling off because they were “too tired”
The most basic ship allows you to bring 3 cats along and putting 3 of the same cats together in a ship creates a combo, which makes your cats stronger but they get tired a lot faster and falls off the ship.
Do bear in mind that you will need to watch the ship’s HP because they do get attacked by the enemies and you will need to use the mechanic cat to repair your ship – the more mechanics there are on a ship, the faster it gets repaired. The ship also has its own gun that replenishes in “bullets” over time.
As you fly along in the space ship, you will run into enemies and bosses randomly. When a boss appear, your screen will flash in red and that’s when you know you will have to save up your ship’s ammo and keep a mechanic on standby because bosses do cause heavy damage at times. The bosses and enemies becomes stronger as you fly along so you will need to constantly change your strategy as you fly.
In comes the boss! The ship’s ammo is indicated by the icon on the bottom right corner
The game goes on until the enemy completely destroys your ship but you can choose to continue your game by paying fishes. Otherwise, it’s game over for that life but you could always start again.
I think Naughty Kitties is a fun game to de-stress. It’s simple and straightforward while coins and lives are pretty easy to earn. However, the bad thing about it is how you can only upgrade your cats and ships until a certain level before you are required to use fishes to upgrade further. It already costs up to 6 fishes to get new cats, I don’t think there are many left for you to do other things. Cats can be bought using 2 fishes, but that option doesn’t guarantee you a new cat, you might end up with a gadget instead that can be bought easily using coins that are a lot easier to earn. Upgrading cats/ships requires at least 4 fishes, continuing a game requires at least 1 fish, stop forcing me to spend real cash on the game already!
If you’re patient enough and have enough self control to stop yourself from spending real money on virtual items, the app is available for download in the Apple App store so download away and have fun. That said, I’m sorry for ruining your weekend plans.
