Do you love to share pictures of your food through Instagram? Well, rest assured, there are many people throughout the world who actually share the same love as you. However, if you somehow end up in Penang one of these days and are visiting this particular café, you might not be able to do that because the café actually bans the usage of camera within the outlet.
The ban is apparently stated on a signage at the entrance of the café which is called La France and located in Georgetown. The reason is rather simple according to the cafe’s owner and manager, Ginny Sim: “…we are a café, and when people take photos, it disturbs other customers,”. Interestingly, a group of chefs in France are also against snapping photos of food at their establishments.
With the emergence of social networks especially Instagram, camera bans might seems to be a little bit excessive to some users. In addition, one might argue that photo sharing on social networks is able to increase the awareness of a food joint. Nevertheless, the reason given by Ginny and those French chefs are still valid as well since…you know, it is their cafés and restaurants after all.
So, maybe you would want to keep a look for signages at restaurants from now on. Who knows, they might not want you to snap photos or go full #foodporn sharing on social network of their meals.
