The Apple iPad has definitely been one of the longest living mobile devices offered in Apple’s store. Launched in March 2011, the tablet is still being offered by Apple after so many years but it looks like Apple is finally ready to remove it. Apple Insider recently received information from “people familiar with Apple’s plan”, which says that the company will stop offering the iPad 2 in the near future. According to the source, the Cupertino company realizes that people are shifting their purchases to newer iPads, namely the iPad mini and iPad Air.
The iPad 2 was first released in March 2011. Apple released two new iPads in the year after that followed by the new iPad Air last year but the iPad 2 remained in Apple’s product lineup for RM1,199 (16GB variant). With a cheaper price, the iPad 2 was a popular option among potential buyers but finally, after almost 3 years, I guess it’s time the company finally retire it. Now, I wonder if this means that when Apple releases a new tablet this year, will the iPad Air will take over the iPad 2’s position as the “cheaper” model?
