It looks like the search for Microsoft’s new CEO has ended with a selection of one of their own. Satya Nadella, the former Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer to replace the outgoing Steve Ballmer. The 22-year Microsoft veteran pre-2011 ran the Microsoft Server and tools business and after the reshuffle was given the role of Executive VP of Cloud and Enterprise group.

Nadella had been one of the few internal members of staff on the short list to take over Steve Ballmer’s role as CEO. It comes at a crucial time as it places the weight of the Nokia deal and reorganization in his hands.
While Nadella is promoted, Bill Gates is stepping down as Chairman and will assume the new role of Founder and Technology Adviser.
Former CEO Steve Ballmer had this to say about Nadella:
“I have absolutely no doubt Microsoft is in good hands, with Satya and the rest of the senior leadership team that is in place,” says Ballmer. “We have so many strong leaders… the future of Microsoft is incredibly bright.”
