Well, it had been coming. A Sailfish OS developer has managed to successfully port the alternative mobile operating system into an LG Nexus 4. In a video posted on YouTube, Sailfish developer Simonas Leleiva shows how he managed to port Sailfish onto the Nexus 4. The two-minute video shows how the Leleiva successfully installed Sailfish onto his Nexus 4, which had Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 installed. However, it must be noted that the porting process is still nowhere near consumer-friendly.
It shouldn’t have been a surprise, of course. Jolla has announced since last September that Sailfish OS not only Android apps, but also on Android hardware, making it easier for developers to test the platform. Jolla chairman Antti Saarnio even tweeted an image of Sailfish running on a Nexus 7 tablet in December, indicating that there are developers within the community who are actively working to port the platform to Android devices.
