KakaoTalk has officially arrived in Malaysia. While the instant messaging service has been battling it out locally for at least the last couple of years, it has had no office in the country until late last year. This new official launch also formally introduces MoL and Friendster as partners for KakaoTalk in Malaysia; the partnership being signed back in June 2013.
The partnership will see Friendster responsible for marketing and promoting the Kakao platform; while sourcing local content, games, and advertising. MoL will, as usual, support the online transaction system for Kakao’s multiple games, stores, and other content.
When asked why it took so long for the announcement to happen, Country Manager of Kakao Malaysia, Mellissa Lee, says that it is because they have been taking their time to build a local team, a venture that was not complete until September of last year.
KakaoTalk is currently available on Android, iOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone.
