Think that the Sony Xperia Z Ultra that comes with a pretty huge 6.4” 1080p display that seems like it’s too big to be a smartphone, but the perfect size for a tablet thanks to how slim it is? Well, Sony hears you, sort of; the company just announced a Wi-Fi only version of the Xperia Z Ultra, and is now calling the previous phablet a “tablet”.
Available in Japan only, the new variant of the Xperia Z Ultra comes with identical specs compared to the cellular version including the same 6.5mm thick water- and dust-proof build, is powered by the same 2.2GHz quad-core chipset with 2GB of RAM on board, 32GB of expandable storage, 8MP rear camera that comes without any flash light, and although it’s written in its Japanese press release that it runs on Android 4.2, it still comes with some Android 4.3 features such as the SmartAR effect for its camera app.
Sony did not mention if they will be bringing their “new” tablet to other markets outside its home country, the Z Ultra tablet will be launched in Japan in 2 days time for ¥52,000 (about RM1,660).
