A 2-in-1 hybrid device with dual-OS, a gaming monitor…so, what else did ASUS unveiled at its CES 2014 press conference earlier today? Well, say hello to the new ASUS ZenFone: a series of smartphones with display size that ranges from four to six inch and powered by Intel Atom Z2000 dual-core processors that was previously codenamed as Clover Trail+.
The smallest of the bunch is the ZenFone 4 which features a 4-inch 800×480 TN display and powered by a 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2520 processor. Together with 1GB of RAM, the device also contains 4GB eMMC as its internal storage as well as 5-megapixels rear camera, 0.3-megapixels front facing camera and 1170 mAh battery.
Next up is the Zenfone 5; which has a slightly bigger 5-inch 1280×720 IPS display together with a 2.0 GHz Intel Atom Z2580 processor. The amount of RAM and internal storage for this particular device is still identical to Zenfone 4 although the ZenFone 5 does feature an 8-megapixels PixelMaster rear camera with f/2.0 lens and image stabilization as well as 2-megapixels front facing camera and 2050 mAH battery.
ASUS also claimed that ZenFone 5 is able to snap great photos and videos in low-light conditions as the low-light mode for its PixelMaster rear camera is able to automatically adjust pixel size to increase light sensitivity by up to 400% to suit the lighting conditions. Additionally, Zenfone 5 also comes with PenTouch and GloveTouch technologies that allow its display to be sensitive enough for users to operate it with any stylus as well as while wearing glove.
Asus ZenFone 6.
Last but not least, the leader of the pack is the ZenFone 6. The device which features a 6-inch 1280×720 IPS display does carry over the same 2.0 GHz Intel Atom Z2580 processor, f/2.0 lens for rear camera, and 2-megapixels front-facing camera from ZenFone 5. The PenTouch, GloveTouch and PixelMaster technologies from ZenFone 5 are also available in ZenFone 6.
However, the rest of its hardware are significantly different. In addition to having a larger rear camera sensor at 13-megapixels, ZenFone 6 will apparently be made available with either 8 or 16GB eMMC internal storage as well as the option of having either 1 or 2 GB of RAM. Not to forget, the device does feature ASUS SonicMaster audio enhancements for headphones and a 3230 mAh battery.
All three ASUS ZenFone models come standard with Android 4.3 which is upgradable to Android 4.4 KitKat. That being said, the Android experiences on ZenFone will not be standard though as the company have implemented its own in-house user interface called ZenUI into all three devices. ASUS have not release any availability information on these devices just yet but the starting pricing for them are said to be USD 99 (RM 326), USD 149 (RM 491) and USD 199 (RM 655) respectively.
