There’s no doubt that Xiaomi is one of the fastest growing smartphone manufacturer in the world. Just a few months back, Xiaomi was crowned the fifth largest smartphone vendor in Q2 2014 by Strategy Analytics and now, according to IHS iSuppli, the Chinese company is the third largest smartphone maker in the world.
In the third quarter of this year, IHS iSuppli says that Xiaomi has sold a whopping 19 million smartphones. Huawei, who was in the third place last year, sold only 16.8 million smartphones in the same quarter.
Xiaomi was only established about four years ago. In 2012, it sold only 5.7 million smartphones followed by 18.7 million in 2013. In 2014, the company sold 11 million smartphones in the first quarter, and 15.1 million in the second quarter, placing them in the 5th place.
Q2 2014 Smartphone Shipment by Strategy Analytics and IDC
That’s definitely a very impressive number considering how Xiaomi is a relatively new company and is only available in limited countries with limited number of devices to sell. It also went through a series of controversial problems like being called a copy cat of Apple products, as well as being accused of sending personal data from users back to their servers in China.
This is definitely an interesting year for Xiaomi, but with other Chinese phone manufacturers on the rise like Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Zopo, Meizu and what not, can Xiaomi continue its momentum?
