Today marked yet another interesting chapter into HP’s 75-years of history as the company has announced that it will be divided into two different companies very soon. In general, what HP has done is that it is turning its enterprise business as well as the Printing and Personal Systems (PPS) division into separate entities.
Once the move is completed by the end of the company’s fiscal year of 2015, HP’s enterprise business will be known as the Hewlett-Packard Enterprise. The new company will be led by HP’s current President and CEO, Meg Whitman who will continue to have the same role over there.
At the same time, HP’s PC and printer businesses will be turned into HP Inc. which will be spearheaded by Dion Weisler, the current Executive Vice President of HP’s PPS division. At HP Inc., Weisler will serve as its President and CEO.
Needless to say that this move will provide both divisions greater flexibility in terms of decision making and financial freedom, to say the least. According to the company, it believes that the split will put both businesses into a better position to compete in the ever changing market conditions.
However, it is not yet known how this move will affect HP’s operation in Malaysia which has existed since 1978. Changes are inevitable though, so we expect to hear more from HP Malaysia very soon.
