Twitter users will soon have to find another way to share photos, as the social networking company has forced Twitpic to close its doors. For many, Twitpic is synonymous with the microblogging site and the loss of the popular image sharing site will undoubtedly be a blow to the usability of Twitter.
Troubles began when Twitter requested that Twitpic give up its trademark application; which at this point has not been granted for the last five years. It was implied that failure to comply with the request would leave Twitpic locked out of the Twitter API; leaving them unable to adapt to any changes that could possibly be made in the future.
Instead of fighting the challenge, Twitpic founder Noah Everett has instead decided to shutter the company and move on. A feature that will allow users to download and archive all previously uploaded images will be made available soon, and the service will official stop working on 25 September 2014.
Twitter has not commented on the issue; although it is strange that it would now choose to pursue one of the few sites that actually improved the microblogging service.
