While all eyes are in Berlin for the major announcements by tech companies at IFA 2014, Samsung Malaysia has quietly release one of its cheapest smartphones to date: the Galaxy V. At RM299, this is one of the very few smartphones in its class to offer Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.
The Samsung Galaxy V isn’t likely to take your breath away with its specs; at RM299, there shouldn’t be many surprises anyway. It’s powered by a 1.2GHz single-core processor with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB cards. This dual-SIM device also packs a 4-inch 800 x 480 TFT display, and 3MP rear and VGA front cameras.
Rounding up the specs list is a modest 1500mAh battery, and a body that weighs 123g and is 10.7mm thick. And of course, Android 4.4 with Samsung’s TouchWiz skin on top.
As we mentioned earlier, there aren’t many Android 4.4-running smartphones at this price range. Thus far, there’s Motorola’s RM369 Moto E and…that’s it really.
The Galaxy V is available immediately at Samsung retailers throughout the country for RM299 in two colours: Black and White. For more information, check out the official product page of the Galaxy V here.
