Sony will allow Xperia Z3 users to stream gameplay from their PlayStation 4 right to the mobile device. Which is a method of integrating the second screen concept into gaming in a way that actually makes sense. Users will still have to be on the same WiFi network as their PS4, but it does prevent people from fighting over the TV.
Gamers familiar with the NVIDIA Shield will have an idea of how the PlayStation Remote Play works on the Xperia Z3. In fact, the system is almost identical as it uses the processing power of the PS4 to run the games and only uses the smartphone as a display. Interestingly, Sony has also created the Game Control Mount that allows any of the Xperia Z3 devices to connect to the Dual Shock 4 controller; allowing players to still use it to play the games. The final result looks eerily like a slimmed down version of the NVIDIA Shield too.
PlayStation Remote Play already exists on the PlayStation Vita, although this provides another alternative for using the PS4 while away while the TV is being used by someone else. If anything, this is a much better idea than the Microsoft Xbox using smartphones as a second display for mini-maps and other functions.
The feature will be available on the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact when the appear later this year.
