Motorola may not be the first to release a rounded smartwatch running Android Wear, but coming up against the LG G Watch R is the Moto 360 that we’ve been anticipating it for months, ever since it was unveiled at Google I/O 2014.
Most of what we have expected from the Moto 360 turns out to be quite precise. There is a rounded 1.56-inch display which doesn’t look entirely circular due to the small, yet obvious strip of bezel under the screen screen. Motorola has made it clear that the design was intended to allow for a thinner bezel around the display of the modern-day timepiece.
The smartwatch will run on Android Wear and sports a display resolution of 320 x 290, which translates into a 205 ppi (pixels per inch); and as other displays have proven it is not as crisp as it should be. Aside from that, you will see internals rather similar with today’s smartwatch standards — 4GB internal storage with 512MB RAM, and a battery of 320mAh which will last you a day’s worth of use. The Moto 360 will be charged wirelessly with the a charging dock that will allow you to magnetically snap into place.
Motorola has implemented the few interesting features found on previous Android Wear devices including the ability to power on the watch face as users lift up their wrist. In addition, there is also the “OK Google” voice activation support, and surprisingly an optical heart rate sensor that rests against your skin behind the smartwatch.
The leather straps are custom built by Horween and can be switched with other straps to suit your style. The Moto 360 with black leather straps out of the box will cost $249 (almost RM800) whereas the stainless steel models would go for $299.99 (just shy of RM1,000). If you wish to get only the leather straps or the stainless steel one separately, it will come with a price tag of $29.99 and $79.99 respectively.
As for now, sales of the Moto 360 will only be exclusive to the US. Nonetheless, Motorola has promised to bring sales around the globe later this year.
