So we’ve seen how easy it is to bend an iPhone 6 Plus with one’s bare hands, but just how fragile is the phone? Consumer Reports recently performed a more scientific test with proper lab equipment, the result? The iPhone 6 Plus is tougher than you thought, and is actually even tougher than its competitor.
The test by Consumer Report puts an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, LG G3, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and HTC One (M8) to a “three-point flexural test”. The test involves the phones being supported at two points on either end, and force will be applied at a third point on top. The test starts off light with 10 pounds (4.54kg) of force for 30 seconds, and then removed. The weight will then be increased by 10 pounds until the phone becomes permanently bent.
The result shows that all the phones in the test are actually pretty tough. Surprisingly, the iPhone 6 Plus did not come in last among all the devices in the test. It withheld 90 pounds (40.823kg) of weight before becoming deformed, and came apart with 110 pounds (49.9kg) of force. Check out the video below:
What do you think of the whole bendgate issue? Have things been blown out of proportion?
