Step aside Razer, there’s a new ultimate mobile gaming laptop in town.
Back at Computex 2014, Gigabyte showed off a new gaming laptop under its Aorus series: the X3. Offering an almost impossible array of hardware in a chassis that’s just 22.9mm thick and weighing 1.87kg, the Aorus X3 even came in a “Plus” variant, featuring an even sharper 3200 x 1800 13.9″ display while retaining internal hardware that includes an Intel Core i7-4860HQ 2.4GHz quad-core processor, 16GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 6GB GDDR5 GPU. It even packs two 256GB M.2 SSDs in RAID 0 by default.
For thermal management, the X3 and X3 Plus packs “dual-pipe, quad-vent, dual-fan cooling” – which means it will stay cool even in the most demanding of games (even if it’ll sound like a jet taking off behind your screen).
And that’s the variant that’s available in Malaysia right now.
In contrast, the 2014 Razer Blade packs a 14-inch, 3200 x 1800 touch display, Intel Core i7-4702HQ 2.2GHz quad-core processor with 8GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M with 3GB GDDR5 memory, and a chassis that weighs 2.03kg and measures 17.8mm thick. The Blade is available in three storage options: 128GB SSD at RM8199, 256GB SSD at RM8799 and 512GB SSD at RM9999.
The Aorus X3 Plus retails for RM7799.
On the other hand, the Aorus X7 v2 is pretty much a monster gaming machine. Packing two NVIDIA GTX 860M with 4GB GDDR5 GPUs in an SLI array, this 17.3-inch beast also runs on a similar Intel Core i7-4860HQ processor as the X3 Plus. But with the larger chassis, you can fit a whole lot more in there. You know, like 32GB of RAM and two storage bays that could fit up to 1.26TB SSD storage (but that is really going to cost you).
Amazingly, the X7 v2 is also 22.9mm thick, and weighs 3kg – pretty light considering the size of this thing. And, at a starting price of RM8799, this is perhaps still within the reach of some mobile gamers out there.
Both the Aorus X3 Plus and X7 v2 are now available at Illegear, which is the official distributor for Gigabyte laptops in Malaysia[Edit: Illegear is the official distributor for Gigabyte laptops, while Ingens is the official distributor for Aorus laptops in Malaysia.]. Both laptops also carry two-year international warranty provided by Gigabyte. Illegear also offers 6- and 12-month installment plans for Maybank credit card holders. Not to forget, both of these laptops also can be customised with various storage options and thermal compounds. Check out Illegear’s product page for the Aorus gaming laptops for more information.
