Oppo has announced the arrival of what is likely to be the most affordable LTE smartphone in Malaysia, the Neo 5. A refreshed of the now-discontinued Oppo Neo, the Neo 5 LTE is priced at only RM598.
Yup, RM598. So what do you get for that money, besides LTE? Well, the Neo 5 is fairly decent: there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports up to 32GB cards, 5MP f/2.4 rear and a 2MP front-facing camera 1900mAh battery and of course ColorOS based on Android 4.3. The only downside is the display: 4.5 inches across with a rather low 480 x 854 resolution, offering a measly 218ppi.
Based on the product page, it looks like the Neo 5 also sports an IR blaster, allowing it to be used as a smart remote control. Besides that, the Neo 5 also supports the various Screen Off Gestures that make ColorOS a very interesting Android ROM. Finally, the little device is 9.2mm thick and weighs 132.5g.
The best part? The Oppo Neo is available nationwide immediately at all authorised retailers. At RM598, this looks like a pretty good deal – the next cheapest LTE Android smartphone is the Motorola Moto G LTE at RM799. For those looking for a different OS with LTE, there’s the BlackBerry Z10 going for RM699 (thanks, Dawja Xavier!)
