Lenovo has just announced its 2014 flagship smartphone, the Vibe Z2 Pro. Featuring a massive 6-inch 2K display and an equally large 16MP rear camera, the Vibe Z2 Pro is also powered by Android 4.4 KitKat.
The successor to last year’s Vibe Z, the Vibe Z2 Pro quite literally builds on the Vibe Z’s success. The Vibe Z2 Pro features a massive 6-inch 2KHD display (we’re assuming that means a 2560 x 1440 resolution) and keeps the device’s size in check with ultra-thin bezels and a frame that’s just 7.7mm thick. Lenovo hasn’t yet confirmed whether the body is made from metal, but the company labels the device as having a “brushed-weave unibody design”.
Information is pretty scarce beyond what the company tweeted earlier, but from the reveal video above it is confirmed that the Vibe Z2 Pro packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and a large 16MP rear camera sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), which juts out of the back of the device.
[Update @ 12:02pm, August 6] The Vibe Z2 Pro is confirmed to pack in a Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz chipset with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of non-expandable storage, and a massive 4000mAh battery. Mind you, the device weighs only 179g.
Speaking of which, the camera itself seems to be a big focus point in the video, where the Vibe Z2 Pro sports an Auto Scene Detection mode, including an Ultra Night Mode for improved low-light shots. There’s also a Pro Mode, which as the name suggests lets you take control of various technical aspects such as ISO, exposure, contrast and many more. Interestingly, the Pro Mode UI looks like a dead ringer of Nokia’s Pro Camera UI.
The Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro will run on Android 4.4 with the company’s Vibe UI 2.0 on top, while the video also confirms that the device is LTE-enabled and has dual-SIM support. Finally, the Vibe Z2 Pro will be available in three colours: titanium, gold and black. Unfortunately, there’s no word on pricing and international availability for now. [Update @ 12.02pm, August 6] The Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro will be available in selected markets from September, with Russia confirmed as one of the first markets.
