Gigabyte’s latest range of laptops, announced last week at Computex 2014, includes possibly the most lustworthy gaming laptop this year: the Aorus X3. Featuring an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M GPU with a super-sharp 3200 x 1800 IZGO display, the Aorus X3 weighs a mere 1.87kg and measures just 22.9mm thick.
From the exterior design alone, one can tell that the Aorus X3 is one mean, lean gaming machine. After all, Aorus itself is a relatively new brand under Gigabyte focused on gaming hardware. The Aorus X3 – which is described as “the most powerful and lightest 13″ gaming laptop in the world” – features sharp lines and an angular body that is reminiscent of a high-end sports car; the rear dual heat vents complete the look.
Of course, the highlight of every thin-and-light gaming laptop is in the extreme hardware under the hood. The Aorus X3 packs an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M GPU, an Intel Core i7-4710HQ 2.5GHz processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD using the new M.2 form factor. There’s also a Killer E2200 gigabit LAN card, four USB ports (2x USB 3.0), HDMI and miniDisplay ports, and two 1.5W speakers.
The 13.3-inch Aorus X3 will also come in a slightly larger variant, the Aorus X3 Plus. While the X3 comes standard with a 2K display (2560 x 1440), the X3 Plus will have an optional IZGO QHD+ (3200 x 1800) LCD display – while still retaining the same dimensions and weight. The Gigabyte Aorus X3 and X3 Plus will be available in selected markets globally in Q3 of this year, with a price range of US$2099 – 2499 for the X3, and US$2099 – 2599 for the X3 Plus. The local distributor for Gigabyte laptops, Illegear, have indicated that the Aorus X3 and X3 Plus may be making their way to Malaysia, as will its other devices unveiled at Computex.
