As the only official broadcaster of FIFA World Cup 2014 for terrestrial TV in Malaysia, RTM will be showing 24 live matches and 11 delayed telecasts through TV1 and TV2 as well as TVi (Astro’s channel 180). Since all three channels are also available online for free, we are not surprised if some users have planned to catch these 35 World Cup matches through those online channels.
Well, we hate to burst your bubbles but unfortunately, you can’t.
This news was confirmed by RTM through a comment on a local blog, as shown below. The reason is rather expected though: because RTM’s World Cup 2014 broadcast rights only covers Free-To-Air TV.
Not a great news for RTM online viewers there but that being said, fans that still want to catch those World Cup matches online for free via official means are still able to do so through Astro On-The-Go website or mobile apps. With 30 live and 5 delayed matches to be made available through the platform, all these matches can be viewed without the need to login to the site or the apps [CORRECTION: you need to register here in order to watch those free matches].
Either that or it is now time to take out the antenna…
