Google is not content with only being in the hands of the current number of Android Smartphone users and wants to see one in the hands of everyone in developing markets as well. With the Android One Program Google has come up with a unified featureset and reference design that allows for manufacturers to create high quality smartphones for a much lower cost.
The Android One program will not just be about the hardware but the software as well. Android One devices will be running a stock version of Android and receive automatic updates too. On top of this manufacturers are free to add their own apps as well.
The first smartphone to be a part of the Android One program will debut in India from Micromax. Tailored for the Indian market, the device will have features important to the demographic there: FM Radio, Dual SIM support, microSD card and a low price. The device will be a 4.5inch one and will retail for under US$100.
