Last night, Xiaomi Malaysia dropped a bombshell to its legion of Mi fans in the country when it announced that it will only sell 4000 units of the Mi 3 in the first batch of sales next week. Well, the other product that’s coming to Malaysia (and arguably managed to generate even more interest than the Mi 3), the Mi Power Bank, will also have a limited number of units to be sold next week. The golden number? 5000 units.
Once again, it does not sound like a large number. As we mentioned earlier, the Mi Power Bank had actually received more attention from Malaysians, many who aren’t used to the fact that a quality 10,400mAh power bank could go for so cheap. Even eBay retailers are selling these for about double the RM36 retail price that the Mi Power Bank will be sold at officially next week, so this news will come as a massive disappointment to Malaysians.
Then again, it should not come as a surprise. Just like how Xiaomi Singapore only brought in 1000 units of the Mi 3 to Singapore in its first batch, the company also brought in 5000 units of the Mi Power Bank for the first batch. And, as Xiaomi Malaysia have responded, it has pledged to bring in additional batches for the coming weeks (they promise.)
On a related note, the mi.com/my website has also been slightly updated. It now features a Mi 3 on the home page, with the time and date seemingly indicating the start of the sales period for the Mi 3 and Mi Power Bank: Tuesday, 20 May 2014, 14:00. Could it be that this will be the allocated time for the start of sales of the Mi 3 and Mi Power Bank?
