[Update 2] Samsung Malaysia has now confirmed that all 1240 units of the Galaxy Note 3 Neo has been sold, and the offer is now over.
[UPDATE] We can now confirm that each outlet will only have 20 units of the Galaxy Note 3 Neo on offer. More below.
Always thought that Samsung has priced the mid-range Galaxy Note 3 Neo way too high for its own good? Well, for a very limited time only, Samsung is doing just that, by dropping the price of the Note 3 Neo from RM1699 all the way down to RM850. Yup, that’s half the price off.
Samsung Malaysia has announced that it will be offering the Galaxy Note 3 Neo at only RM850 for three days – between May 20 until May 22; that’s from tomorrow onwards. However, there’s a catch: there are limited units available (1240 units to be exact), and you can only make the purchase at 62 participating outlets nationwide.
[EDIT] It also appears that Samsung may limit the number of units sold to 20 per outlet. After all, 1240 units is a very odd number to put on offer – but it isn’t when you divide it by 62 (the number of participating outlets), which equals to 20. We’ve approached Samsung Malaysia for confirmation, and will update the post when we receive a reply. UPDATE: Samsung Malaysia has stated that there are no limitations in units sold per outlet.
[Update 2 @ 11:02pm] A Samsung representative has retracted the earlier statement, and declined to elaborate. A quick check with one of the participating outlets has confirmed that there are indeed 20 units available at each participating outlet.
So what would RM850 grant you with the Galaxy Note 3 Neo? Well, the Note 3 Neo – quietly released in Malaysia a month ago – is powered by a Samsung Exynos 5 5260 Hexa six-core processor, employing ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture between two 1.5GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.7GHz Cortex-A7 cores. There’s also 2GB of RAM, with 16GB of on-board storage and a microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB. Interestingly, the Note 3 Neo has a 3100mAh battery, which is only 100mAh less than its elder sibling.
Besides that, it features a smaller 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720, and sports a smaller 8MP rear camera compared to the Galaxy Note 3. LTE connectivity and microUSB 3.0 are also not present on the Galaxy Note 3 Neo. The S Pen, however, is still present.
The Galaxy Note 3 Neo is also compatible with all of Samsung’s wearables: the original Galaxy Gear, Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and the Gear Fit. Finally, the Galaxy Note 3 Neo also shares the same software additions that made the Galaxy Note 3 the best Android phablet around. And yes, the fake leather back makes an appearance here, too.
Sounds like a good deal at RM850, then. But if you’re looking to grab one for yourself, it’s best if you be quick, as stocks are limited. For more information and a list of participating outlets, check out Samsung Malaysia’s Facebook event here.
